VOLLFORMAT was curated and organized by Studio Vierkant. The selection of artists focused on stylistic diversity, individual approaches to the building’s architectural characteristics and strong contrasts between neighboring rooms. Artists from Stuttgart, the surrounding region and beyond were invited to take part. Throughout the building, many of the rooms were created using the new Montana BLUE water-based spray paint. With its very low odor, Montana BLUE is particularly well suited for painting indoors, making it a natural choice for a project that unfolded across numerous enclosed rooms, hallways and architectural spaces.
Alongside spray paint, the artists worked with emulsion paint, mortar, wood, chisels, routers, papier-mâché and numerous other materials and tools. Paint-filled fire extinguishers and even eggs were used in the process. With no formal restrictions, each artist was free to approach their space in their own way.
Rather than creating a uniform exhibition aesthetic, VOLLFORMAT embraces these differences. One room can be loud and overwhelming, the next reduced and precise. Painting meets construction, destruction meets transformation, and classic spray-can techniques exist alongside sculptural and experimental interventions.
What connects the works is their relationship to the space. Every room is site-specific. Every intervention exists only here, in this building, at this moment.
