HERAKUT „Because You Are That Light“ IN ABERDEEN FOR NUART FESTIVAL

The 2001 founded NuArt Festival, usually finding place in Sweden, moved the festival to Aberdeen and with it, beautified murals all over the city. Along with many other famous artists the German duo Herakut painted one of the walls in their unique style. HERAKUT Because You Are That Light ABERDEEN NUART FESTIVAL

The piece called “Because You Are That Light” on Aberdeen’s Market building in the Merchant Quarter is a signature work that combined both, Hera’s illustrative style with Akut’s photorealistic details and calligraphy elements. Amongst others, Add Fuel, M-City, Fintan Magee, Julien de Casabianca, Robert Montgomery, Martin Whatson, Jaune, Alice Pasquini, Isaac Cordal, and Nipper participated in the Aberdeen NuArt Festival that has been planning Street Art events for over 15 years. Taking the festival to another city was a big deal for both, the NuArt organizers as well as the Aberdeen city council, but still the main aim always stays the same:

“Our stated mission is pretty simple, it aims to make art part of everyday life, to free it from established hierarchies, or at the very least, loosen the grip a little, and to show the guardians and gatekeepers of contemporary art, that there is a vast untapped audience for visual culture.”Martyn Reed, founder of NuArt Festival
