The 5th Montana ICONIC SERIES – A Homage to BLADE, the “King of Graffiti”
The 5th edition of the Montana Cans ICONIC SERIES celebrates graffiti pioneer BLADE, one of the original New York kings of style. The special release, ICONIC Series #5 – BLADE: Portia Ogburn-Red (GOLD 2095 Blood Orange), pays tribute to his lasting influence and personal story. A true homage to love, legacy, and the roots of graffiti culture.
Ever since the first words were painted onto subway cars in the Big Apple, the art form has been thriving. While most names have faded over time, some have stood out. With well over five decades under his belt, BLADE definitely belongs to the latter category. In graffiti terms, he achieved the undisputed king status. Straight from the birthplace of graffiti as we know it today, he is one of the founding fathers of our beloved culture. His iconic bubble letters are easy to recognize and have achieved universal fame through cult publications like Subway Art.

We are proud and humbled to announce our new ICONIC Series #5 BLADE: Portia Ogburn-Red (GOLD 2095 Blood Orange). The design is as personal as can be: while the shot of the classic 1970s panel was taken by BLADE himself, he later realized the house where he was born is in the background — a lucky coincidence, the color is named after his late wife, Portia Ogburn, making it a testament to the love for his family and his passion after decades in the game.

We had the chance to talk to the maestro about happy accidents, nostalgia, having fun in the 1970s, and still painting in his 70s – Enjoy the video!
