The Swiss based NEVERCREW have recently created yet another spectacular large scale mural. This time the duo painted a double image for the Urban Nation ONE WALL project in Berlin. The piece entitled “Reification”, is as much about the space between the gaps as it is the painted work itself. Even if the vibrant Montana GOLD colors can be inviting, there is a lot more to the work then just aesthetics. On two large apartment buildings two enormous whales float side by side. Each side appearing to be part of a one original entity that also appears to be a target. Both nearing each other but not quite meeting in the middle. In reality, this is the gap between the buildings. Impressive to say the least. NEVERCREW again taking their viewers to many possible levels. With the same common result. An amazing piece of artwork to look at. Check it out here:

“Reification”

Double mural painting realized in Berlin for the “One wall” project by Urban Nation Berlin, 2018.

About the work

This work takes direct inspiration from the architectonical structure on which it’s located and it’s inserted in the “Unity” concept proposed by Urban Nation for its curatorial project. The two subjects are placed one on each wall, with a physical and real division in between: like reciprocal reflections that interpret each other while floating/sinking separately, opposite yet complementary, they seem to be part of the same original whole, now divided or going to unite again.

This is about something that has to be focused, about the need for understanding and awareness for what’s on the other side and around. It is about common responsibilities and aims despite distances and differences: towards a lost balance between humankind and nature and with human nature itself, towards the resultant mutual vulnerability and a potential cooperative participation.
